Why there is no banner

Consent banners exist because storing or reading something on your device for a non-essential purpose requires your permission. There is nothing here to permit. There is no advertising network, no embedded video player, no social widget, no tag manager, no session cookie and no login to keep alive.

Analytics are cookieless and first-party: the beacon is served from this domain and reports to this domain, sets nothing, and reads nothing. What we collect describes exactly what a page view sends and what it deliberately does not.

A banner would be theatre. This site does enough of that already, and it prefers to do it somewhere you can see it coming.

What is kept, and where

Four things, all in your browser's own local storage. That is not a cookie: it is never attached to a request, never sent to a server, never seen by us, and never readable by another site. It stays on the one device you used, which is also why none of it follows you to your phone.

Scare and sound switchesWhether scares are armed, whether sound is on, and your intensity level.

So the site does not ask you again every time you open it, and so a choice to turn scares off survives a refresh. Forgetting this one would be the single most hostile thing this site could do.

So the archive can mark the days you have already played. There is no account, so if this is lost, the streak is lost — which is the trade for not asking you to sign up.

It is what lets The Management notice you have been here before. It is a number in your browser, not a profile on a server.

Erasing all of it

Clearing site data for this domain in your browser removes every item above, immediately and permanently. Nothing needs to be requested from us, because nothing of yours is held by us — there is no copy on a server to delete, and no account to close.

Private browsing works too, with one consequence worth knowing: your scares-off choice is forgotten along with everything else, so the site opens with its defaults. Nothing ever plays on its own regardless — a scare still waits for you to press something.

Links you send to other people

A link made with Send It stores nothing on the recipient's device beyond the switches above. The private report page you keep records that the link was opened and when the scare landed, and nothing about who opened it — not a name, not a location, not a device. That is not restraint; it is never collected, so there is nothing to show you.
