What you are watching
Bellwether Lake at blue hour: indigo water gone almost flat, a jetty entering from the left, one warm window on the far shore. The light drains over several minutes rather than holding still, so the scene you settle into is not quite the one you started with. It is genuinely the nicest thing on this site, which is the entire mechanism.
What goes wrong here
The lake is the scene most people mean when they say a calm video that turns. Its hit is the rush: a figure that was already at the far shore, closing the distance it should not be able to close. Reflections matter here — the water will occasionally complete a movement slightly before the thing above it does, and there is no way to confirm you saw that.
How it is made
Rendered in WebGL rather than played back, so the water and the light are never the same twice and there is no frame to scrub to. Where WebGL cannot run, a hand-built CSS lake takes over with the same beats. The figure is a photographic frame held for under a second.
